Oxford – like lots of other cities - faces transport challenges; a growing economy, a dense population, and high numbers of people travelling into the city for work all contribute to high traffic congestion.

Nitrogen Dioxide and other gases from diesel and petrol cars, buses, lorries and other traffic causes air pollution which can damage our environment and our health.

To help us reduce air pollution Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire County Council have worked together to get cleaner buses in the city, and to promote greener transport like walking and cycling.

As well as continuing to encourage people to make these types of journeys, we also believe that electric cars can play a big part in cleaning up our air. Electric cars don’t emit Nitrogen Dioxide or other harmful pollution, and can help us to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide we emit from driving. 

Lots of people need a car for some types of journeys, and we want to make it easier for people to drive electric and pollution free!
