About the Go Ultra Low Project

Oxford has a higher than average percentage (28%) of its households living in terraced properties with a total of 41,462 people living in such housing. A high proportion of these properties will not have access to off-street parking making charging of an electric vehicle very challenging. There is currently no standard solution allowing residents access to charging where they are unable to park their car on their own property.

The lack of available home charging for electric vehicles is one of the main barriers to city-wide uptake of the technology. Overcoming this issue will therefore make electric vehicle ownership possible for more than 16,000 additional households.

We aim to test a range of solutions for provision of charging on-street. This will allow a range of technologies to be tested and will assist us in identifying the most appropriate installation in different street situations. This means that solutions can easily be replicated in cities across the UK and will hence provide benefits to other parts of the country.
